Phrag. wallisii x Conchiferum

I'm a HUGE fan of small growers, and this most definitely fits the bill. These smaller caudatum group hybrids are all that and a bag of chips. They are perfect for growing under lights.

The particular plant is newly acquired. It produced 4 flowers on this spike, pretty good for such a compact plant. I chose this particular one because it had the most color out of the bunch. The others I had a chance to buy were more pale, which I'm assuming was one of the goals of this cross. However, I like a little more color, so it was perfect for me.

So far, it's handling my typical phrag care quite well, so I think it's going to be more of a wet grower.

I purchased this cross recently as well -a paler version - and am very pleased with it. I do believe it has been registered as Phrag Mayling Nielsen.

That made me chuckle. I'm definitely going to hold on to this little guy, but the good news is, this cross is another one that's available in decent numbers currently. They're showing up on Ebay a lot, as well as a number of vendors' sites. Maybe in a few years, with some luck, I'll have a division or two to share.

With orchids in general, what I find is that, certain species and hybrids become common place and easy to find for awhile, and then once that supply is exhausted, they tend to become very difficult to find. So, when I see something I like, if the price is something that I can squeeze into my budget, I get it.

I have one of these that I purchased on eBay, compact grower, nice large flowers, and easy to grow I love it! Definitely a great purchase.
