I just planted the top today. It's easy to grow a pineapple. Break off the top at the fruit. There should be no fruit tissue. Peel off the bottom leaves. Let it dry a few days. Then plant in a small pot. It takes a few weeks to root. When rooted, give it good sun, move outdoors in warmer months, fertilize a lot (fish emulsion outdoors) in summer...repot as needed.

Gotta try that at the farm, just for interest sake. Does the pineapple 'grow true' to the original, or is it a shadow of its former self? I imagine that climate and feeding play a part.

Well, mine was a very small fruit, compared to the huge parent fruit...but the flavor was quite possibly better.

Theoretically, it should hold true because you are basically cloning it... But I don't know. Maybe Eric's wasn't as big because it didn't get full tropical sun all year...
