Jay's site says this one comes from Costa Rica. A friend i.d.ed it for me as I received it an an unknown species at my society auction in Sept. It's a very large plant, outgrowing a 5" pot and seems to like its new home. The older leaves have some spotting, so I don't know if it was grown too bright or too dry, but all the new leaves are a nice, clean limey green and it seems happier. I lost track at 35 spikes. A couple of growths had 3 and 4 spikes per growth. I took a couple quick pics as I don't have the time today for anything fancy. This is my one and only pleuro. I'll have to keep me eye out for other warmth tolerant species.

Those blooms are not only dark and rich, they're down right cute as well! Nice job! ;)

Pretty neat Candace.

You should take this one in for judging. Well grown pleuros don't make it there way often.

Thanks guys. I'll be bringing it with me on Weds. for my OS meeting. Many of the older leaves look pretty cruddy, though. I doubt it would get pulled for AOS judging because of that. But, you never know.

Pleuros.... One man's weed another man's treasure..... Or Wo-Man. Nicely done. I always think what do people who see these all the times in their yards and on their trees really think of them... Is it like our dandelions? :poke:

I always say, " If I find out all the money I'm paying for these pleuros is really going for someone's lawn clippings..!!!":viking:

Well grown. For other warmish growers I recommend tripterantha, and endotrachys.

I only saw one orchid while in Costa Rica. And it was laying on the ground, near the beach, fallen off a tree probably. I wish I'd seen more orchids about, but no one besides me would have been interested in an orchid sight-seeing trip.

The best contact I have found for species in Costa Rica (and Pleurothallids in general) is on Flickr:

If you like Pleuros... be prepared to

Also, since we were talking about books in the other thread, Volume II of Vanishing Beauty, Native Costa Rican Orchids is supposed to be published this year... This volume covers Lepanthes, Masdevallia, Platystele, and Pleurothallis.
