This has to be one of the fastest roths to grow/bloom but man, there are allot of ugly ones and this one is no exception. Blooming on a 24 inch growth with a start.

I suppose this cross name mixed several crosses from more and less good parentage.
Xavier told that in the past and it's probably right.

I have the chance to bloom one of the best from this cross and not at all sure the parentage are same of this Slipperking bloom.

Has anyone bloomed this cross with more then three flowers? I've bloomed two plants of this cross and both look like this. I have pictures of the two reported parents and they are massive 4-5 flowered awarded plants and to have so many ugly ducklings makes no sense. I think it was Paphioland who said he bloomed out ~10 plants of this cross and none were worth keeping.

This actually the second blooming. The first growth died completely out after blooming in 2013.

Yes. My suspicion is that this theory from Fabrice and Xavier is correct.

I have seen tons of not-so-good roths from this grex, but I believe the FCC from Hilo Orchid Farm is from "this cross" -- maybe the original. Please correct me if I am wrong.

To be clear, I think that there was mixing of an original grex with plants of other inferior grexes.

There are some terrific roths in Taiwan, but I have also seen benches full of some really awful ones when I visited. I hate to be negative on roths, but I mean worse than anything posted on this forum in the last few years.

I bloomed a bunch of these years ago. They all had speckled areas of light color in the POUCH. Many had reflexing dorsals. Light color in the petal marking and small size. I didn't bloom a single good or decent one. I think there were multiple parents used. Some are accurate. Some are not. Many in the US are likely from incorrect parents.

Ugly? I'll take it.

I'm afraid, if roth-hybridising goes on as it is now, in the end we will have roths that look like 'modern' Phal. stuartiana - nothing to do with the 'real' one.

That the dorsal is not as broad as it could be, that the margins are a bit wavy ... omg, I just repotted my young roth - never bloomed - and I'm happy there was not one single dead root! I'll be glad if it flowers next year and if it turns out 'ugly' like this one, I'll be very happy! Not only 'competitionable-plants' are worthwhile to grow. Just my two cents...

Lol I think we are a long long way from the issue of them not resembling roths. As long as the segments get bigger but proportionally with good shape I have absolutely no problem with it. Mm was wild collected. Looks lots like modern good roths just lots smaller. Rex was wild collected it is large had yellow color and not as good shape but it was large. I'd be happy to sell you my "old" style roths cheap if you are interested.
