Sedirea (Phalaenopsis) japonica

This plant is about to bloom for the fourth time this year!
One from the main growth and a much smaller one from one of its basal keikis.

Usually a spring bloomer but the cooler weather must have confused it. It bloomed in February, April, June and now!
On its April bloom, I made an outcross and harvested in September.

This might be my favorite orchid scent.

It is powerful yet not disturbing. Just the right mix of sweet citrusy and spicy (clove or a bit of cinnamon? I can't really pinpoint which spice but it's there, right?) creating overall very pleasant and refreshing scent.
It is easily a highlight of my day!
The flowers last much longer due to lower temperature I have now.

Outcross.
I still have one pod in the fridge. One smaller pod was split, and I sprinkled the contents near the mother plant. I don't have high hope that I will see anything happening this way, but was just curious in what I might get just in case.

This one has been trouble-free for me. Both this and Neos are considered easy to grow and bloom generally.
I did fail with the Minmaru shima, the miniature form with variegated leaves, though. I had a few and none lasted more than two years with me. But the wild type like this one should be fuss free for the most part.

I have failed with Minmaru regular type. I love it so much. I’ve tried all the methods; moss, bark, keeping wet, keeping dry. Each one costs me $13. I got one to go for 3 years but never bloom and then one day POOF! It rotted in 3 days.

Rotted in 3 days can't be totally your fault. It must have had infections already and it just got out of hand quickly. Rots can strike just like that when the plant is not strong and the environmental conditions are just right for the pathogens.
What happened to my Minmaru Shima was not rot. It actually did not even die but it was well on its way towards that direction and so I just tossed it cuz I hated looking at it and dealing with it.
So, after about one year or so, this light brown dot or stripe would appear on the white/cream part of the leaf. They would gradually grow in size and the eventually the affected leaf would prematurely fall off. Then, the same would start on another leaf and repeats. The roots were not affected and the plant kept on pushing out a new leaf but in the end, it was not pretty to put it simply.
They are cheap over in Korea or Japan, but in America they cost quite a bit and I did not replace them. They are cute and all, but my main reason for growing this species is to see the flowers and sniff on their amazing fragrance when in bloom.
Heck, I could get myself Phalaenopsis Sogo Vivien variegata if I wanted a small "Phalaenopsis" with exotic leaves.
