My wife and I won these at our OS Christmas party. I normally grow just multis, parvis and their hybrids. Considering that space is at a premium, are any of these worth keeping? Please be brutally honest. Also, not sure if they are all fully open.

Magic Pink is the first and the spread is 12.5 cm with a 7 cm wide dorsal

President Fred is the second and the spread is 11.5 cm with a 7 cm dorsal

Odette's Vision is the third and the spread is 11 cm with a 7 cm wide dorsal

I think we must only keep plants that we like, not plants that other people like...

(it easier said than done for me since I keep some plants just because I don't want my collection to become smaller...)

Actually, I really like the vini.

Vini is nice!

Hmmm ... my preferred taste is similar to yours, therefore I wouldn't keep any of them. Are these first bloom seedlings? They could improve. I find Maudiae crosses to be somewhat common, all 3 are different, I've seen worse but they could be better. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I like vinis, now just take the spots of #1 and put them on the vini & it's a possible keeper! :p

I like all three orchids. Each one I would keep, but that is me. You need to decide whether to keep them or exchange them for orchids you prefer.

I'm not in hybrids, I wouldn't buy them but as raffle prize....I would keep them. They all look nice but in the end it's your decision.

provide petal widths plz...other measurements looks good as do form (except the last one with the cupped dorsal) and color...these are not bad!

i'm not really a big paph person and especially hybrids, but they are generally acceptable to the eye for a rank beginner like me.

it's good to stick with a plan when you have little space, but since they are smaller than your multis then you could enjoy them for a little while until an opportunity for a swap came along.. of course our plans often get derailed when we least (and most) expect it, so .... it's your call :rollhappy:

Give them as gifts. Just in time for the holidays!

I see lots of spikings in the background! :O

The first two look like keepers to me, BUT if you have to ask then maybe they just aren't for you. Those are lots of tall phal. spikes in the background aren't they? All of my phals. just have the little nubs that promise a bloom months from now.

Well, as a newbie to these, I think you should just hand them over to me!!! LOL...

Personally, I love them. But beauty and desirability are both in the eye of the beholder. I'd say its your call.

For me I have basically three categories. The three, not in any order, are; is the flower award quality or a desirable quality about it? is it rare, species or hybrid? and is it a species slipper? Species I usually always keep, bad or good. They are the basic building blocks to propagate the species or make hybrids. A rare species or hybrid, good or maybe not so good, is always cool to have. Such as, antique hybrids not seen in collections anymore or a blooming randsii. These give people ideas of other possibilities for breeding from the pollen or divisions to trade off. Award speaks to itself. Now your plants; the first fits none of these, twisted dorsal, appears to be pastel colored, they're a dime a dozen. The second has possibilities if you where include to do breeding. The only mark I see against the flower is the slight pinch in the dorsal sepal (at the top). Judges aren't into pinched dorsals but as a breeder it could be used. Same for the vini, if it flatten out more with good presentation it might be awardable or be put into a breeding program. It all comes down to what floats your boat!

I think all of them are keepers. No award winners, but no dogs either. Considering the minimal space and lighting requirements of Maudiae types, keeping them will not be any intrusion into the space or care of your preferred plants.
