It is the spring Dendrobium season and the native D. monilforme is stealing the show. Here are some in bloom now.
A couple different varieties of D. moniliforme. The white one is the more typical wild form, but many purple varieties exist as well:
Here a yellowish variant called 'kisseko':
A really tiny flowered form with a shape more like D. kingianum called 'okina'. The flower is not quite an inch across:
Finally, a little hybrid plant I picked up the other day. Definitely has some D. nobile in there, but I'd wager D. moniliforme as well. The draw is the size of the plant and flower color - it stands only about 4" high and the flowers are about 2" across. The color is deeper than in this photo, a blackish-purple. It will be interesting to see how big the plant eventually gets:
