@CharlesD Thank you for the photo. What an awesome trip! I love the sunset/autumn color complex paph. I didnot realize Hilo Orchid Farm was doing a lot of work with those.

Wrapping the trip with a Hillsview stop must have been really nice!
Yes James has been using Lippewunder a lot but also Gege Hughes and little bit of crazy jolly type hybrids to get those colors. He also has a few with Annette and fall magic. There was a just a mother load of Crosses of all types

Wow! Thank you for the photos, Charles. For sure, I would have picked up a few of those complex Paphs. if I were there.

I would like to know the names of imag. 1971, 1984, and 2688 if you don't mind me asking.

Here you go
1971 - orangeade x crazy shell I believe called orange margarita. Cross from Japan. These were $200-$300 I believe
1984 - a division of a crazy jolly
2688 - Shirokane x white queen cool cross Teresa made as Shirokane usually not fertile. Hopeful that this backcross might get over fertility barrier

Dale, is this complex consistently good? Compact plant?
Fairly compact plants. I haven't seen very many flower, but there is certainly variation in flower quality as would be expected from a cross of this type. Some have been quite nice, and the grex has 2 AM/AOS awards to its credit. From what I can tell, the plant that Charles saw in Quintal's stud house was AT LEAST AS GOOD as the 2 that have been awarded.

What I really like about this complex is the intense color...being a compact plant is a big bonus for me. If you have BS/NBS plants available, please send me a PM and reserve one for me for spring shipping. TIA

Possibly 1 or 2 still hiding somewhere, but I probably won't find them until I go through repotting this spring.

All this talk about crosses! Any thoughts on the conference itself? It helps to make these types of events better in the future...

Best,
I really enjoyed it. Speakers were great. I am very appreciative of the effort put in to organize it. I just wish some more of the experienced and talented people on slippertalk and elsewhere could have made it. I had a decent number of conversations where the other person was not there because of slippers but because they’re involved in orchid digest, or from a local society etc… Great conversations anyway but just surprised me. I don’t know if there is any remedy to that really just depends on the interest in the hobby. Having it in Hilo is great for access to nurseries but it also probably has some effect on who can make it.

Ditto that for HOF only a handful of people were really hunting through the benches there. I would have thought with an event like this it would have been more swarmed.

So I don’t have many complaints for the event really just wish there were more people
