    First phrag flask-kovachii update

Not long after my last post, I gave 3 to the Syracuse orchid club for their auction. I ended up neglecting them, mostly not giving fertilizer, and they lost a lot of leaves. Last month I finally repotted and have them in a little ebb/flood setup, but still need to set up a shelf unit enclosed...

Very nice! Quite a journey these seedlings have had

    Trichopilia suavis

Happy Thanksgiving! I used to have a decent number of trichopilias. Definitely don’t need two waterings a week this time of year, unless you were growing in large bark, stones, etc. As long as there is light moisture still near roots then you don’t need more watering. If you had very strong...

    Trade Paph thaianum from KS

I remember when someone overseas asked me some years back to import some flasks of thaianum from Asia (first legal into usa). They sat in U.S. customs for a few days before being moved to the ‘continue shipment’ shelf. When the box arrived, it literally looked like someone had used the box to...

Could you help me identifying the paphs?

You can contain a growing area somewhat by putting frames or plastic around it, and having a few other plants like as mentioned to help increase humidity

    Ghost pepper plants

Congratulations! My experience with eating commercial hot sauce mainly consisting of ghost peppers was likened to putting a propane torch in my mouth :) :( . But there are several colors/heat levels/flavors of ghost peppers so some may be ‘better’ than others. It’s a long hot summer! Many more...

Fertilizing via the automatic misting system? Good or bad idea?

:D yes, I see something that really isn’t relevant to the original poster’s question. My responding at length, like the back and forth presently shown, would add even more distraction from the desire of the op to learn if feeding by mist is good or not. A moderator should know better than trying...

    Huge mistakes, someone console me

Oh! You reminded me of one of my first big oopses; (sigh) before I headed to work, I put a nice phal bellina and a few other orchids possibly including a laelia speciosa underneath a south facing steps overhang, and fastened some white remay fabric up as a sunscreen, and went to work. When I...

Fertilizing via the automatic misting system? Good or bad idea?

We aren’t talking orchids with solid leaves, but cuttings misted heavily to initiate roots. Millions of plants, thin leaves, no roots to draw feed out of. It’s common practice and it works. If you mist heavily and you see degradation, and you add feed and it stops and the cutting improves (no...

Fertilizing via the automatic misting system? Good or bad idea?

Sometimes you can get mineral and as stated algae; but 20ppm seems very light. The Utica city water used at first greenhouse upstate was 32ppm and we had to inject fertilizer to help prevent nutrient loss from pure water over leaves

    Huge mistakes, someone console me

The remaining leaf looks much more hydrated than the previous picture, looks like it wants to live. Now that it’s alive, don’t keep looking at it every half hour ;)

    Cypripedium acaule

I’ve seen similar answers in different places, aiming for pH of at least down to 4, so a little lower than 4 target is good. Sources of acid may vary in strength; just take a gallon of water, and put drops into it until you’ve reached pH 4. Always add small drops slowly into the water taking...

    What is that?

I’ve seen very similar on phrags I’ve incorrectly watered and dried too much, it looks like dry down damage Different diseases (and insects) can affect weak tissue; some when the leaf is still alive and others when the tissue is mostly or completely dead
