    Phragmipedium Franz Glanz

    Tiny image, hard to see.

Hamlet, which plant do you have from EYOF..? Could be interesting to guess in advance if it will or won't have horns. I've debated in my mind about colchicine poisoning a lot over the years, since learning of how they do it. In the end, if the bloom looks great, I'm fine with it. But it is an...

Maybe, but it is hard to get 4N children from 2N parents. Colchicine solves that issue.

I've had many EYOF plants over the past 18 years. Some are more prone to the showing of these 'horns' than others. Usually they're pretty small, and don't obtrude much visually. The first bloom shown here was exceptional for the size of that horn. But for example, I haven't seen any horns at all...

The other flower is now more or less fully open. So here it is..!

I agree with you Angela, though it does show the downside of colchicine poisoning as a technique. In effect it is a pretty crude tool for gene modification, shown by the fact that they did not intend to create these horns on the blooms. Sometimes the horns are fine, and sometimes I have seen...

I believe it is due to the colchisine poisoning they do to bring about more 4N's. You see this a lot in the EYOF plants.

    Phrag. Hanne Popow

    A painful story..! Ouch..!

    Restrepia cymbals

I just really love the Restrepias, all of them..!

    Phrag ritcheri x schlimii

I agree with Dot. Neutral pH isn't the best. Also in my experience the schlimii component can make for a reluctant bloomer to some degree, but when they come it will be great.

    St. Ouen

Will have to nurse this plant along, as it isn't the healthiest of specimens. But it is the finest St. Ouen I have seen.

    St. Ouen

Hi Angela, yes, but with one drawback: her plants have that dreaded brown fungus that destroys phrags. Don't know if you have seen it over there in the USA where it isn't so common. Here's the irony of the situation: that fungus is easily kept at bay by daily watering with cold water. Over the...

    St. Ouen

Quite possibly, it seems to have heavier substance than I have seen before on other St. Ouens.

    St. Ouen

Another plant I bought from Sue Adams in Bristol last year, this is the finest St. Ouen I have seen in ages. I think it must be originally from the EYOF some years back.

    Phrag. Ainsworthii or Calurum.

Between 4 and 6 in my experience. I love this cross, both Ainsworthii and Calurum.

    Mexipedium xerophyticum

As I mentioned above, it wasn't doing well for me until I began giving it a moderate watering every day.
