    New Award

Thanks to all for the nice comments. I must say that the hybridizer deserves most of the credit, Mark Srull of Orchidaceae. His pod parent of Paph Jolly Master received an 88 pt AM/AOS, and is a huge incredible dark flower. It has a ton of potential for the future.

    World issues

Geez, it was only a 5.8.............Just hope you never have to endure a stronger one. They are never fun, and when you start worrying about your house falling down it gets downright scary. Being a west coaster, I do find it somewhat amusing to see the reactions to this event. You would have...

    New Award

This was just awarded last saturday. It is an unregistered cross of Paph Jolly Master x After Dark. HCC/AOS 78 pts. It has a nice long stem from Paph mastersianum along with a very flat dorsal sepal (7.7 cm wide) and wide petals (2.9 cm wide)

    Paph callosum ('Perfectio' x 'Ninth')

that's right......both showed up around the same time, but they breed very differently.

Paph Prim-N-Proper 'CCO'S Buffy Gold' HCC

Lovely flower, mine has been around for many years in fact purchased from Bealls. It received an AM about 5 years ago. The plants are nice sequential bloomers with up to 4 or 5 blooms over time.

    Phrag. Robin Redbreast

I also have the 3N version and was fortunate to get an AM/AOS on the plant. I believe it is the only award to this cross, and the flowers are about the same size as Phrag Jason Fischer but in yellow.

Dendrobium cuthbertsonii flowers don't open up wide

They don't always do what you want them to.......I find that many orchids bloom differently from year to year, and those that bloom more often have different quality each blooming.

    Moustache 'Marion Smith' FCC/AOS

One thing to keep in mind is that he quality of the photography will affect how we perceive the flowers. The angle of the lighting and the camera itself will vastly change the image from award quality to something pretty pathetic in some cases. Whether a plant is worthy or not is not always...

Looking for a compact Jason Fischer

My Jason Fischers aren't as stoloniferous as Don Wimber but as they are 3/4 besseae they will have that tendency. They are compact when young, but if grown to potential they can be 24" or more across, and of course they flower much better.

    Buying from Ecuagenera?

Yeah, they just showed up.....and I paid for them. They show up at a lot of the big shows and are pretty generous with those that support them. They do have Phrag andreetae but it is a pricy one.....

    Buying from Ecuagenera?

I talked to them at an orchid show about specific plants (phrags) that weren't on their table and they showed up a few months later. Phrag longifolium, schlimii, fischeri, pearcii and hirtzii and all were nice plants.

    True species

If plant B is a complex hybrid consisting of several species and evolves from many generations, there will be considerable variation in the progeny.

    Phragmipedium hybrid, but which?

It looks like a mix of the caudatum group, perhaps longifolium and most likely hirtzii to give the twisted petals.

    Paph. Peppermint '#1'

    Tom is a bit subtle......LOL

    Paph. Peppermint '#1'

Tom, that is nice! Paph adductum never fails to surprise..... This sort of hybridizing is usually a deadend due to chromosome differences, but there are exceptions.

    haynaldianum comparison

    Rick, is that Sam's cross?

    Cypripedium Awards

Those are all AOS awards, not RHS. I'm not sure how to search for RHS awards.

    Shreveport/AOS Spring 2011 Show

No camera with me, and I didn't see that Scott had one either...sorry.

    Shreveport/AOS Spring 2011 Show

Sam won 3 AOS awards for his amazing paphs, all AM's. Paph Johanna Burkhardt, an immense green Maudiae type and a sanderinum cross with, I believe, adductum. His adductum hybrids continue to show their value.... I spent a fair amount of time with the paph/phrag guys including Tom Kalina, Sam...
