Is stalite (expanded shale/slate) sufficiently similar to diatomite? I got a 65# bag of Sunleaves brand 'Rocks' (available in two size ranges, 0.25-0.5" and 0.5-1.5") for a little over $20 at a hydroponics store. Some concrete-supply places sell stalite, and garden centers sometimes carry it...

I honestly can't say most yellow besseae impress me (hey, I'm a sucker for orange, okay?) but that is pretty fantastic. I'd love to see results from this kind of breeding crossed with good 'peachy' besseae; I wonder if deeper golds, orange flares, etc could be achieved?

Just off the top of my head I'd speculate a bumblebee as pollinator in situ, any flower that looks purplish to us tends to really 'pop' in UV light, which bees apparently see pretty well. They also keep warm better (fuzziness!) and therefore fly at higher altitudes than most insects. Ex-situ...

Greenhouse Megastore sells both bulk pieces and pre-fabricated with edge taping and grommets. If you don't see the prefab size you want then look for the 'custom shade cloth calculator' or just call in your order, their customer service was pretty good when I bought a small piece of aluminet...

Both very nice! Great comparison of the reciprocal crosses, not easy to find this kind of info. #2 is my favorite, I like the greater clarity/contrast of colors in the dorsal.
