Exactly how did you 'set it in a cup of water'? I think that bears looking into.

well, it was an empty shallow cottage cheese container, and I just rested it upright against the side of the container so that most of the plants were in the water and some soaked up through the mount

Im watering twice a day to get the mosses alive that where on the plant when I get it. Maybe it´s the wrong way but we will see ...
