Wow, that one is close to malipoense! Are you sure its the hybrid?

To create a species lookalike that grows faster and blooms earlier, .... A bonus for the unethical breeder! To save a couple of years on the turnaround rapidly equates to improved profitability. I suspect there is a lot of this out there already.

It's why we have to keep species blood lines separate. Diluting a pure species with an inferior variety regardless of it's vigor makes no sense to me as a breeder or a judge.

Thanks everyone for your insights. The reason I was asking is because I recently purchased two plants and both are now in bloom and the flowers are quite different. Pics will be forthcoming.

WOW! I dont see any jackii in that flower. The staminode seems to be pure malipoensis to me. But then again, there could be a TON of variation in a group of plants.
