wow. how did this get an FCC? the form looks rather poor. let me guess, the flowers are huge (10 whopping points) and there's a lot of them (10 points)?

I wasn't going to say anything after the last one as I was starting to think my standards were way to high. But I agree with you Pete. The dorsal and ventral sepal are ordinary to say the least and I don't like the petals much. Maybe as you say the award is entirely down to size and flower count. Looks like there were at least 2 spikes.

I'm no expert, but it doesn't have the 'Wow' factor that a FCC should carry.

I cant really add much, since everyone already said what I was going to say.

Hey, I didn't judge it ;). I will post entire plant pics on Saturday. It also won a CCE

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that... However the whole plant photos should give a better idea of the plant.

Even still, the individual flowers have flaws which prevent it from being eligible for an FCC award in my view. The whole plant photos are irrelevant. Given it got a CCE award as well, I'm very much looking forward to seeing a photo of the complete plant though.

I have to agree, it doesn't give me the FCC vibe. Guess you had to be there.

I loaded my recent AQ+ last night (supposed to be the last AQ+ before the new release of the web based program!). I was generally unimpressed with the overall quality of flowers and images shown in the recent awards. Many even look like the scans of the old slides. A couple Paph shots are even posed looking straight down into the pouch. What's up with that?

One thing to keep in mind is that he quality of the photography will affect how we perceive the flowers. The angle of the lighting and the camera itself will vastly change the image from award quality to something pretty pathetic in some cases. Whether a plant is worthy or not is not always evident in a photo although quality photos will enhance and show the true flower quality.

good photo or bad, and furthermore, whether it is a ridiculously huge plant and got a CCE or not, the flower seems "longer" than it is wide and has almost slightly ruffled sepals, nowhere near FCC form in my eyes, and as i have said previously in the post, size and floriferousness are each only worth 10 points...form is worth 30

I thought I had seen that photo before. You posted these photos back in March. I assume you must have forgot. You can see a photo of the whole plant in that post. It is a magnificent plant and well worth a CCE award. I argued in that post it wasn't worth a FCC. This time I have a bit more support. :)

My bad. I forgot I had posted it, and ran across it in my files, and thought it wold provide good fodder for the mill. Guess I was right!

Yea it's familiar. I think I saw it at June's when I was there back March. It looks too much like a St. Swithin to me to be worthy of a FCC. To me a beautiful blending of both parents equates to a higher award. Just a guess but the award is more politics then quality.
Like Pete mentioned.... too stretched.
