Thanks, but "well-grown" = "ignored", in this case.
If you look closely at the plant, you'll see the growth is almost straight up on this side, a more normal, spread-out pattern on the back. This was on the back side of the bench, with other, larger plants smashed up against it. Until the spikes grew, I wasn't even aware it was there!
Maybe I should apply that "strategy" more broadly.
