Paph. henryanum

My Paph. henryanum just opened this week. Compared to last year the colour seems more intense this year, perhaps because it's been a cool and cloudy June this year. I grow it on the lower shelf of my light stand along with barbigerum, tranlienianum and spicerianum.

If the photo shows the colours exactly......it's a very intense coloured P. henryanum, furthermore shape and stance are good. Altogether you can be very pleased with it and if I were you....I would be it too. Congrats!

Thank you for the positive feedback! Here is a picture of the same plant taken two years ago. The dorsal was greener then but the colour is still quite intense. Last year the dorsal wasn't so green, it looked more like it does this year, but this year the flower has a much nicer shape.

It looks like the lighting is different for both cases. Perhaps try to emulate the previous year pic’s lighting? You can see a yellow cast in the recent pics.

Perhaps it was a sunny day vs a cloudy one. Or photographed early in the day vs later in the day. My orchids have their "photo ops" in the same part of the house so the natural light isn't always the same. But.....call me crazy.....I seem to recall the dorsal becoming more green as the bloom matured. I'm going to watch this one closely to find out.

Yes different light of the day does change the color of blooms. Morning and afternoon are more yellow while evening is more blue.

In my experience the dorsal of the henryanums open slightly yellow (chartreuse) and over 2-3 days start to green up more, then from day 10-14 they start to wane and began to yellow during senescing. So it may appear to green up during the flower development and maturation.
