This is the nicest houghtoniae that I've ever seen.....and I've seed some nice ones! Congrats David! And, good luck when you do get it to a judging....now, or in the future with more flowers. You are correct, the flower count is low. It should have 4 or better, 5 flowers per stem to be considered better than most and therefore, awardable. Paph. roth often has up to 5 flowers per stem and awarded haynaldianums regularly have 4 or 5; sometimes even 6. In 1993, I had a haynaldianum awarded an AM/AOS with 7 flowers on one inflorescense.

Thanks John. We actually have our Spring show this coming weekend so there will be a full panel of judges present, which is a rare opportunity for us. As it only has 3 flowers I'm not expecting it to be awarded this time. But hopeful in the future. I'm happy enough to get 3 flowers on a relatively small seedling. I think it was very close to pushing out a fourth as the fourth non-developing bud was quite large. From past experience, I can expect to increase the flower count by at least two on a bigger plant.

WOW, 7 flowers. That is incredible. Do you have a photo?
