Got this little guy from Ross a year ago, added 2 growths & look at the reward! Just needs some color! (barb. x charlie)

Interesting. Stare at it for a minute... what new species does it remind you of???

hint: starts with v

barbigerum is very dominant for form and the dorsal color on charlesworthii tends to disappear in the F1 generation of crosses where the other parent has no red/maroon color. At least that's what I've heard and observed.

Ross, any word on what happens in F2 or F3? does the Charlie reappear or does it stay hidden?

Paph barbigerum seems pretty dominant in primary crosses, but Paph charlesworthii almost always presents the white staminode. It also gave longer stems.

Nice! Where'd all the charlie go????

Yeah! I like it; but, where's charlie?

:drool: don't tempt me - I've got a charlie opening up as we speak! Do I dare? I often thought crossing it to henry would put some color in it. It is an easy 'little trouble' plant and that's an attribute one certainly wants!

:clap: I have a rare plant! Ross must have made a mistake on the tag! or the flasking service mixed things up!:p or are we confirming "v" is a natural hybrid?!

More likely the latter. I'm not saying for sure by any means! Just sayin' it looks darn similar. And their (barbi & chuckworth) geography is very similar and overlaps with vejv. All being from the neighborhood of Thailand, China, Vietnam, Laos, and Burma (Myanmar). Would need one of the experts to confirm. We've seen lots of variability in vejv recently here and a hybrid swarm situation like is the case with x wenshanense could be happening here???

Are you suggesting that all you need to get a new species recognized is to be a big vendor!?

Right off the bat I wouldn't doubt your tag. The thought ran through my mind as I was scrolling through the other's posts. That it looked remarkably similar to other newly discovered species from the region. Then Ernie spoke up so I joined him. Not that I'm an expert in any sense. I have to admit that many things look similar to me eye and I tend to wonder why they were ever split off into species. But I bow to the experts, who I'm sure will chime in at any time and prove with geometric logic that I don't exist either. *G*
