Here you can see the flower of Paph. tralienianum together with another clone of Paph. René

It is not so difficult to see the difference when you have the plants side by side

Best greetings

OK I can see differences BUT I'm not going to have a tran beside my Rene everytime it's blooming to prove it is indeed a hybrid. OR that it isn't a environment clone found in the wilds that I'm trying to pass off as tran! I don't like this cross. Future generations are going to say after enough "close species breeding" "I have a flat dorsaled tranlienianum!!" Let's give it an award of merit!

Very interesting, Olaf. The biggest difference I see is that the sides of the pouches of the Renes come up into the space of the staminode, whereas the tran's pouch sides stay well below the staminode. Is this typical?

Dear Hien,
I could not verify the the picture of the red tranlienianum. I found only a picturere of Papht. tranlienianum 'Miki' and another without name which looks like a Paph. herrmannii.

Best greetings

Olaf

Here is the website, Olaf

it shows tranlienianum"Miki" & tranlienianum var. Red"Miki" side by side

The pouch certainly is different than pure tran. Ears. Thanks for the side by side!

This is very interesting. Personally when it comes to hybrids made with unique species like tranlienianum, I like to see the result favor that parent so that the offspring has hybrid vigor, as well as the qualities of the parent that I like.

My memory is fuzzy, but I think it is fairly common in Zygos and I believe it has been "documented" in a Cyp., maybe reginae or pubescens.

Didn't OL try to cross a Phrag. onto a Cyp. pubescens pod parent and the resulting seedlings all turned out to be pubescens?

Yes, I think Jerry did that a few years ago, but I think it probably got selfed (at least that is my theory).

Robert

And thanks Olaf, yes when you put them side by side I agree you can see the barbigerum in there

Dear Hakone,
yes the plant came from René Klinge in Netherland. So the plant was named in honour for his hybridizing activities.

The other registred cross with Paph. tranlienianum, Paph. Vinci (with Paph. helenae) was also created by Rene.

A real miniature. It was only bad that the plant died and I could not find other plats of this interesting cross.

Best greetings

Olaf

Too bad for the Paph Vicci, but the other two are fantastic (I love curly petals)! Well real tranlienianum is the most beautiful...:D
