Might also consider low NPK too.

I had mine in baskets for about 6 months before low K (which initially was given at 80-100 ppm N) and didn't drop to weekly N application of 30-50ppm for another 6 months. That seemed to stabilize the root loss and stunting I experienced the previous 2 or so years (they were purchased as 4-6" seedlings from Sam Tsui). I think these guys are very similar to my wilhelminea in culture.

Root growth and leaf extension didn't really get good until 2-3 months of the daily 2-5 ppm N regime, which started somewhere around spring 2013.

Little plants need very little.

Anyone aware of this species being awarded?
 
That last picture is a stunner. Incredible pouch colour and that dark colouring around the petal edges is almost like Goth eyeliner. Wow!
