This one went to judging on Sat (03/17) too but the judges thought one or more of the pouches where asymmetrical. ?huh? No big deal.....there is always next year!

Nice Rick. From a judging point of view, I'm not rapt in the petal stance.

As you know David, most of the roth hybrids as well as the species take awhile for the petals to stablize. The first flower is pretty much set although the left petal does have extra twists to it. The other three are still moving a round.

An excellent display Rick and like you say, there's always next year. As stated before, I bet there's going to be more of your plants making this trip and the judges can't keep coming up with excuses!!

A great classic who always has his charm. Unfortunately a little bit to large for me.

OK Rick.

Please explain............

I tend to like the St Swithin's with petals more dominated by the roth. I notice with a lot of St Swithin clones that the petals are all over the place. Neither one form or the other.

A pretty famous Australian clone with good petal stance is 'Sunnybank' FCC/AOC. Here is a photo -

I got a small division of St Swithin 'Summer Storm' HCC/AOC which has a nice petal stance. Unfortunately after flowering once, it really hasn't grown further. It is currently going nowhere. I'd pay good money to get another division.

I notice with these more horizontal petal clones that the petals tend to be shorter. I wonder whether the laevigatum form of phillipinense are used in these cases. Clones with really long petals tend to be like Rick's
