My first time blooming this species. I purchased a small group of seedlings from Mr Perner a handful of years ago. Single growth 8 cm plants. They grow like weeds for me but are now just starting to bloom. I think that my new water source has something to do with this. Going from 300+ TDS to ~20 TDS.

This is the first of the group to open. Another plant has three sheaths but looks like one might have blasted.

Perhaps the secret is hard water for growing and soft water for flowering?

Thanks everyone!! I grow them with my Parvis but tend to water them more in the winter. Lows down to the low 50’s and a couple times in the high 40’s and summer highs in the upper 80’s. Repot every other year, they seem to not make a large amount of roots so repotting always makes me nervous. I use a 3:1:1 mix of bark:NZSM:hydroton.

Eric, I wonder, why it is, you often make me think of an (actually, quite horrendous) saying from the part of Denmark, West Jutland, where I originally came from?!

In danish it goes:

De, der vil have alt,
hvad de ser,
Ak, de må græde,
når andre de ler!

In english it would approximately translate into:

Those, who want everything
they see,
Woe, they must cry,
when others smile with glee!

I grow mine in baskets and water from above, I do my best to avoid the crowns but I don't panic if a bit of water gets in.

When I had one few years back (sadly it has gone to Orchid Heaven), I kept a gentle breeze on it all the time, and it bloomed reliably. My biggest mistake is not to repot my paphs every 2 years.
