Papilionanda Motes Black Star
(2701 V. Violeta x Pda. Motes Purple Haze)

First bloom seedling from Motes Orchids, Nov 2023. The two previous blooming attempts aborted, this round it managed to keep two flowers. Love the deep purple, size and shape.

Growing under lights can be difficult at times. Hopeful I can move the flower count in the right direction with better culture.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The color on that is STUNNING. Is it fragrant? My preference with "vandas" is for super weird shapes OR stunningly round and symmetric dinner plates and not as much for stuff in between.

I shy away from most vandaceous orchids since so many of them are regarded as warm to hot growers. I sometimes wish I had more space/time to invest in the alliance. Do you keep this warm or could you elaborate a bit on your care and growing conditions?

Somehow I did not already have Motes' website bookmarked, though I check it out from time to time. This was a good reminder that I need to save it for my regular window shopping. Such a nice flower and they've got some really nice stuff on their site currently.

Happy Thanksgiving!
