Hi Leo,
Very nice flower, 'Esther Nies' was one of my favorite besseae, easy to grow and flower... It can be very red when grew in colder conditions (50F).

I haven't had this plant very long. I bought it in bud from Marilyn. I put it with the rest of my besseae and kovachii in the light garden. It is under a 400 watt high preasure soduim lamp. In the basement, so temps run about 60 to 75 F, depending on how cold the wind is blowing. I water every 3 to 5 days. I keep it in an individual shallow saucer of water at all times. Right now it is in a bark mix, I will probably move it to sphagnum, at which time I will get rid of the saucer of water. Fans keep the air moving. Basically a primative set up. 14 hour of light daily. It will be interesting to see how the color changes as it adapts to my conditions.
