I haven't had good experience with phals that were likely tetraploids, usually phal aphrodite (from taiwan) that have cardboard leaves and grow very slowly. I haven't had good luck with that family of orchids as they have a little different requirements for growth, and because of their slowness it makes it harder to water them properly (and they usually get over-watered). I would rather have a plant that grows more quickly and looks decent. Who wants a beauty queen that sits on it's butt and needs special attention other than what most others like? If I had a very small collection or maybe all tetraploids then that would make it simpler and less likely to be a problem. fussy plants remove themselves from my collection one way or another (smile)
