No, I don't know for sure if that's what it is lol.
Nice color & form, but tiny.

Looks like a representative of the species (sugiyamanum). It seems like it just opened. Not the final form.

What?! This IS a species? I've never heard of it. I'm slipping......:( I really thought it was a sukhakulii hybrid, maybe with some javanicum/virens influence.

So, is it a real species; or, is that status in contention? Does anybody have any info on this? Thanks.

lol yes
Paphiopedilum sugiyamanum actually is a species. I just wasn't sure if mine actually was sugiyamanum.

A nice representative clone of the species.
They seem to be most closely related to virens. On occasion they are offered for sale as virens var. sugiyamianum. As with virens, they seem to do best using basket culture.

Thanks for the info. I see that it's been known for at least about 15 years; longer than kovachii! You'd think that the name at least would ring a bell with me. Oh well. How exciting! A brand new species......to me! ;)

Beautiful, great to see a clone without that nasty reflexing of the lateral segments. Attractive fine peppering and great colour. Tops!
