Thanks. I have found that one. But that price is way to high for me.
Some are just expensive because people have more money than sense. Plants aren't worth anything but what people are willing to pay.... I'm not sure most breeders would actually be able to charge enough for their flasks to justify the cost of a $10,000 stud, but I've seen (well, heard of) plants selling for that. Can write it off on their taxes? I don't even buy name-brand ketchup, so maybe I'm just cheap. So many of these clones are expensive because of their breeding potential. If you are not a commercial breeder, the price makes them out of range for most of us.
Startler 'Glace' and Orchilla 'Chilton' did not prove to be very good breeders. Both combine complex with barbatum type genetics. I think they are expensive because they are rare and very nice things. I think Arnie Klehm, Ross Hella or Tim Culbertson might have it in the US but they may not have extra divisions and won't be that cheap either. So many of these clones are expensive because of their breeding potential. Probably $300. That one is totally worth it for the breeding potential not just the fact that it’s a nice flower. And the WCs are excellent growersNow, what is the going rate for WC 'Indomitable"?
In your dream if it is $300...It is more than $800 for a single growth division and that is if you can find it. "Indomitable" is FCC/AOS clone.Probably $300. That one is totally worth it for the breeding potential not just the fact that it’s a nice flower. And the WCs are excellent growers
Our old friend Andy....where is he now? I heard he moved back to NZ.I remember what I paid in the early 90s for some of Andy Easton's newest hybrids, and would love to have that money now. Or what I paid for Cym. Balkis 'Silver Orb' in the 60s. At the height of the Southern California Cymbidium boom prices for top plants soared. I had planned to breed these but life got in the way. Orchid prices are a fun subject, one that has and probably always will be beyond me.
I got a WC redoubtable for $150 recently. I don’t think I’ve ever seen either clone it offered that high. And WCs are still valuable because of their breeding potential not only because it got a FCC on the 60s. But with any of these paphs it’s all about actually knowing the person. I hope you got the real thing from a reputable grower...for that price, it seems too good to be true unless the seller is your friend. You can't trust Ebay or online sellers for the awarded plants. He was very active in an old forum many years ago...then disappeared. Someone said he was moving back to NZ with his wife. He was from New Zealand if I remember it right. I am surprised he went to Columbia. In temperate Columbia. New Horizon Orchids.
