    Paph Delrosi 'Bessie' HCC/AOS

Sometimes the shock of going into a different environment will force these things to bloom. We have all heard the stories of such plants surviving for over a decade without blooming, then doing so within a year of sitting in a new greenhouse.

    Legal Paphiopedilum in the USA

I am working on a project to include all species whether imported legally or otherwise to be eligible for AOS judging. The AOS doesn't want to be caught in a battle with USFWS over legalities. Included on these lists are plants that were cleared by APHIS and customs, but are not legal...

    Paph Delrosi 'Bessie' HCC/AOS

This plant was awarded in 1988 in Philadelphia with an HCC/AOS of 75 points. It has not been raised to an AM. It is amazing how such plants can get around!

Chiu Hua Dancer "Abbie's Whiskers" Update

LOL, yes......I would prefer that all species and hybrids could be accepted for awards and if the plant police wanted to deal with the issue, the exhibitor would have to prove the legal origin. The pre-CITES I listing days were exciting times, now we are just sitting on the sidelines and lusting.

    Judging Discussion

From my experience kovachii strongly increases flower size and usually adds petals that waffle as they age. The color is more of a reflection of the other parent unless species like schlimii are involved. The hybrids are quite strong growers and have impressive inflorescences, so kovachii does...

    rothschildianum and Yang-Ji Apple

    Incredible flowers!

    Paph. Fortuna

That is a nice blend of two great species. You can see both parents easily in the photo. These types of crosses need to be recreated.

Chiu Hua Dancer "Abbie's Whiskers" Update

The issue of Decker's Paph gigantifolium has been changed since last fall at the JC Meeting. As long as documentation can be provided that the parent was from his origin, the awards will be honored in the future. The primary worry from the AOS perspective is that while judging plants of...

    Encyclia or Euchila citrina

There were two different plants of this species at the show, and one was pulled for judging. It was the larger of the two plants that were exhibited side by side. These have a marvelous citrus fragrance and heavy substance.

Paph venustum red and yellow pouch

The leaves on venustum are quite varied even among populations of similar varieties in the wild. I haven't seen any connection between leaves and flower colors for this species.

    paphiopedilum delenatii vinicolor

With the new changes departing from the need to write taxonomic descriptions in latin, does that also apply to the nomenclature?

    tranlienianum legal?

That rule was changed at the last JC meeting in Louisiana. Now the Decker version is okay with backup documentation.

I wouldn't rush to change your tags.....at least with Laelia sincorana as the epithet people will understand what the plant is.
