I went down the street to the Wahiawa Botanical Garden and a Gram. speciosum was in full bloom. The psuedobulbs are 10+ feet, spikes about 7 feet and still growing; only about 2/3 open of the way open, so they should grow another 2 feet or so. Nice sized flowers, maybe 6 inches across, but the color was great. If I wasn't such a lame photographer and had a better camera you could see that the spots are a very intense velvety purple...

Great plant Fred! It has a good flower count. And you have the ability to grow them the best way possible, in the yard and left alone, don't touch it. Some of the best ones I have seen are grown like that with no care. But yours is still a baby. I can't wait to see it in 5 years, you will end up using railroad ties to make a basket in your yard.

That's a super nice clone..! I haven't seen any speciosums with such distinct spotting and pale background colour as this one over here... Recently several people I know got their hands on speciosum var. album (from Thailand). Flowers on a relatively small plant, but still very pricey (cost in the thousands for a flowering sized plant).

This is in the Botanical Garden down the street, my wife said it was great to put orchids in the trees, but no tree sized orchids...
