As promised here is the other seedling of Paph. Jacobs Ladder (Fumimasa Sugiyama x sanderianum). For those of you that went to the Chicago show some of you may have seen it there (although it only had one flower open at the time). In case you were wondering this one also has white ovaries.

Your hybrid has great color and color contrast. I am trying to see what is different between your hybrid and a sanderianum species. I can't see any differences. Anything you can point out?

:clap: AHHHH so that's what it was!
One flower didn't even seem to be half open at time of judging.:(

Nice. That is sanderianum dominated. Does Fumimasa Sugiyama contain sanderianum?

David

Yes, Fumimasa Sugiymama is platyphyllum x sanderianum, so backcrossing it to sanderianum makes this hybrid 75% sanderianum and 25% platyphyllum, and that is why this hybrid resembles sanderianum so much. I would say the differences between this hybrid and a pure sanderianum is that it has larger flowers (at least the dorsal, and pouch is larger), but the petals are probably a little shorter compared to a pure sanderianum, and also the colors are a little different. Also the leafs are probably a little wider.
