I got this plant and feel like i can grow it. Does anyone have any tips or tricks? It is going to be on a wood mount.
I have a BS one for two yrs. Lives on the plastic mount it arrived on. Grows slowly for me. Treated as if one of my vandas. High light, warm, daily wet/dry. Frequent fertilizer, summer weekly, winter every two wks. Perhaps shouldn't be fertilized or as much in winter.

Isn’t this just like closing the barn door after the horse got out? Seems silly and foolish. You acquire the plant and then figure out how to grow it after thinking you can.

Stayci is one of the hardest Oncidiums to grow and flower. It has a new classification but is still hard to flower. It needs incredibly strong sunshine, mounted conditions and temperatures on the warmer side. It was considered to be “a rat-tailed” Oncidium. It was a bit harder to flower then Oncidium splendidum.

Wouldn’t it be prudent to research it first and then purchase it armed with some knowledge. But you do whatever makes you happy.

I grow these mounted on cork slabs. I used to use wood, tree fern, and cork for mounted plants, but the ones on cork grew best for me. Maybe because the greenhouse is a little on the dry side and the surface of the cork seems to hold moisture a little longer. For large slabs, the roots become really embedded. They get a lot of light and they do like to be warm. I also grow splendidum (bark in pot) and the hybrid Kunine (mounted on cork slabs). Don't have problems with any of them. Also, was out of the country for about 3 weeks last year and they didn't get watered at all. Didn't seem to do any damage. Mike

I did research and talked to the seller. I was simply asking if anyone had tips or tricks that made them successful in growing it. I usually always do research when getting a plant. My brassavola acaulis is doing good and is putting out a new growth. Acaulis is harder to grow and is not seen as much.

Hoping a picture is worth a thousand words….

Mounted on cork (3” x 6” Ish”). You’ll notice most of the roots aren’t growing on anything. Purchased as a seedling out of flask from a local (now closed) dealer. Been up there for 5 years. South facing greenhouse, 6” from the roof. Min winter night temp in the middle of greenhouse is 62. It’s there year round. Watered as close to everyday as I can get - early in the day. When I asked Tom Perlite if I should mount it up, he replied “if it’s growing at all, don’t touch it!” :). (Tom is a well known oncidinae expert in the San Fran area - golden gate orchids). Good luck!

Thank you so much. That thing has more roots than leaves 🤣 and looks extremely healthy. Congratulations.

Tom P. is the best Den.cuthbertsonii grower that I have ever known as well....super nice guy! I thought he retired a few years ago...It is great to know he is still in business and I will definitely order some Den. cuthbertsonii from him in a couple of months.

I have one also. It grows well mounted on a Kool Log - not for the coolness but for ease of watering. Blooming is another story. I have not gotten that thing to bloom in the six (??) years I have been growing it. It was a seedling when I got it and just produced a 24 growth last year. Maybe 2025 will be its year???
