    Phrag Sergeant Eric

The petal stance isn't an issue with this hybrid, I would expect some variability the shape. The color is good, it basically comes down to how it compares to previous awards and the parents.

Why was I created?? Paph Bruno

Back crosses of primary hybrids onto one of the parents is a typically successful line of breeding. There are countless examples where vigor is improved as well as size, shape and color. In this case, the flower of Bruno 'Model' is much improved over Paph spicerianum.

Theresa, that is a stunning flower!

I love what Paph gigantifolium does to those petals! Every plant I've seen of this cross has the same corkscrew petals.....definitely a great combination of two species.

Evidently there is a range of color on this cross from richer pinks with some red/orange to light pinks. The flowers that are darker are smaller and the larger ones are this lighter pink. Also, if the besseae used is the yellow albinistic version they then flowers will be much lighter in color...

    3 new Paphs

We got him out of town on Monday just as the big snow storm hit Seattle. He was ready to go home!

    A Rare Slipper Orchid Article

It's one of those generic Maudiae hybrids with obvious callosum, lawrenceanum and superbiens genes.

    Paph Burma Road

I haven't seen this one before, it is a pleasant combination of both parents.

    Paph. Little Trouble

Paph barbigerum seems pretty dominant in primary crosses, but Paph charlesworthii almost always presents the white staminode. It also gave longer stems.

    Aerangis splendida

3 of my Aerangis are in bud now, and the entire genus is delightful.

    Paph Lady Isabel

The flowers are a bit small compared to the average of the cross. Some in this cross have a spread of 25-30 cm. The dorsal size is pretty average and cupped. But considering that it is a young plant and this cross averages 4 flowers per inflorescence, I would consider that it will improve with...

    Paph. praestans x primulinum

This cross was registered quite a while ago as Paph Prim-N-Proper.

Grand Champion of Show Paph. malipoense

I'm not sure how the Aussies handle such problems, but the AOS does have a review process where a plant that is disputed can be corrected. All it takes is a judge willing to notice the problem. I wouldn't see this as some nefarious plot, but instead as a mistake by some people that didn't know...

    Registration problems

Well yes, I did and it is a great article. The problem is that the barn door is already open and the last few years are causing a bunch of confusion especially with the registration system. I'm pretty sure that they don't know one taxon from the next while registering new names and hybrids.

    Registration problems

This is no big surprise as taxonomists evolve the species concepts and confuse the nomenclature for common horticulturists. What they do is common for their art, but not good for long term hybrid registration. The RHS is reacting to quickly to the science rather than waiting until it settles a...

    AOS?... or maybe just me

One point that has been forgotten here is that there was a mediator involved between the two sides, and he suggested that the lawyers on both sides should meet to discuss the matter. The Orchidwiz lawyers decided not to participate. It seems that without such assistance and intent by BOTH...

    Besseae funky buds??

I have had the same problem with some of my besseae plants, but it doesn't happen on every blooming or most of the plants, but just a once in a while event. I have no clue what the reason would be as the plant with this problem is sitting with 5 or 6 others that are blooming just fine.

Paph barbigerum (barbigerum x barbigerum fma. aureum) AQ/AOS

Congratulations! I'm looking forward to blooming my seedlings from this cross.

Paph. Krull's Worthy Web 'Aldarra', FCC/AOS

To answer your question, I believe the judge in question gave the plant an 88 which was certainly fair. Also, this particular judge tends to have strong opinions about many things and isn't shy about expressing them. The others on his team would take his comments in that context. The plant...

Paph. Krull's Worthy Web 'Aldarra', FCC/AOS

Of course the judge knew the breeding influence of Paph charlesworthii, otherwise he wouldn't have given it an FCC.......his comments were like calling a Phrag Jason Fischer too red, stating the obvious in a joking manner.
