Thanks. It is blooming on a very small plant so it is difficult to imagine this flower reaching those dimensions, but maybe there is potential for it to get back there.

Parentage is unknown, but I don't disagree. The AM is from 2001, so it's possible.

Has it flowered as big as when it was awarded in 2001,- NS 34cm, in your care?

In that case, set a pod on Mt Millais with pollen from Alford. You'll get the hybrid vigor of Rex x MM and the color of Val x MM all in one shot.

Lol not even close. This is is the only time i have flowered it, and it is on a small growth. Very slow growing plant.

This clone from Sam's Choice x MM Best is on at least its second or third blooming, and is finally reaching its potential:
DW 5, NS 31, 4 flowers

Yes, I agree the dorsal is too narrow.

The form is also not as symmetrical as I would like, but it has improved with with each flowering so I am happy with it.

I don’t see a thing wrong with that dorsal. The flowers are lovely and very nicely proportioned. How can anyone resist a flower coming at you for hug like that
